Projects
We have worked on various projects since 2009, with the main focus being on Education & Health. Our major projects so far have been at Kizimkazi school. We also visit many different rural areas in Zanzibar to distribute donations to those in need. donations include clothing items and other essentials.
Zanzibar is a beautiful island located in the East of Africa. The island is well known for its mix of exotic beaches, famous spice plantations, history (Stone Town being the capital) and diverse culture.
It is disheartening to note the disparities in way of life between the various social groups in Zanzibar. About half of the population lives under the poverty datum line. This has led to various problems arising like lack of education, inability to access good health for some groups, malnutrition due to lack of food and an overall decline in life expectancy and increased death rates due to avoidable situations.
The founders and directors of Bigger Heart aimed to lessen these negative effects of poverty, through tackling 2 main aspects:

Through self-fundraising and donations, Bigger Heart has implemented more than 10 projects in Zanzibar, since 2009.

This has only been possible due to the successful establishment of healthy links between Wales and Zanzibar. The amazing work of our organisation has seen us receiving the Wales-Africa Learning Award.

Through our fundraising efforts, we have managed to establish the following facilities at school in Zanzibar;

Creation of a library, equipped with books, desks and chairs

Development of a computer lab equipped with computers

Support for orphans through payment of their school fees

Provision of school supplies and clothing for those in need
Health impact in africa
We have been working in partnership with local hospitals in Zanzibar, to provide supplies and essential machines/equipment. So far, we have been able to provide the following;

ECG machines

Oximeters

Blood pressure machines and
-
medication
We hope to raise funds to be able to purchase HEART ECHO machines for children with heart conditions, ensuring better health access for all despite their backgrounds in hospitals in Zanzibar.
